What We Do

Coaching Philosophy

My philosophy for Coaching kickers and punters is, approach each and every athlete differently, skill levels are different at every level. My job is to properly and accurately assess every athlete to ensure the proper instruction is implemented. I believe, adapting to an athlete’s natural abilities is the key to keeping them within their comfort zone. In doing so, we will create more accurate, consistent, and more confident kickers and punters. After all, we want our athletes to perform at their best and highest levels at all times.

We cannot eliminate 100% of all of the things that may be causing issues with the athletes, but, we can correct most of the variables and make them much more productive, and in time, a very good kicker or punter. Teaching field awareness, and implementing the most effective drills to date, I believe create an atmosphere that is conducive to the athletes learning. Having said all of this, I also believe in being straightforward and honest with an athlete. If he is not performing well, or if he is not following instruction due to lack of focus, or frustration, I will be sure to let them know, respectfully. I don’t believe in the cussing and fussing approach, that does nothing but frustrate the athlete even more, and in my opinion, damages their confidence.

I will not pressure an athlete to be great, but I will challenge athletes to get better, every day! To conclude, I believe what makes a good punter or kicker is, quality repetitions and practices are more important than how many balls you can kick in a day. I’m about injury prevention, and having quality kicking and punting sessions is more valuable and less stressful. Coaches need to learn how to control this part of the kicker and punter’s practice session because they have no time to observe them throughout practice to help troubleshoot, and make the necessary adjustments. We can’t be with our athletes all of the time, so teaching them, their coaches, and parents how to practice I think plays a critical part in the athletes’ success. My bottom line method to coaching is, keep things as simple as possible.
